Category 5 Cable
| Cat 5 is a telecommunication cabling
standard. In order for cable to be labeled Cat 5 it must meet the performance benchmarks
that the EIA/TIA provide for UTP wiring. This allows Cat 5 to reach transmission speeds of
up to 100 Mbps. Cat 5 not only supports |
 |
Ethernet but also RS-232, ISDN, T1, 10BASE T, 100BASE
T, 100VG AnyLAN, and ATM as well as standard voice and more. It is recommended for new
installations so that when an upgrade to a higher speed hardware is desired, rewiring is
not necessary. |
